This 40.5-inch door (45.5 inches including its forked pivot tab) is a single-slab Igbo piece, hand-hewn from one solid plank with a notched, forked top corner and a small carved foot at the base rather than separate metal hardware. The face is dominated by a bold X built from multiple parallel ridged diagonal lines converging into sharp chevron points, a graphic, deep-relief pattern that fills nearly the full carved field, framed above by a plain horizontal band separating it from the top edge. The surface carries a lighter, weathered gray-tan patina, sun-oxidized rather than smoke-darkened, with visible age checking along the grain. At 19 inches wide, this is a narrower, more compact door than others in this batch, well suited to a smaller wall run, a powder room, or paired with another narrow single-slab piece where its bold, graphic carving can read clearly at close range.

Q: Does a smaller single-slab door like this hold real collector value compared to a larger multi-plank piece?
A: Scale isn't the only driver, carving quality and graphic strength matter just as much. This door is narrower than some of the larger multi-plank pieces in the collection, but the ridged chevron carving fills the entire surface in deep, bold relief, which represents real hand-carving time and holds up visually even at a smaller size. For collectors building out a wall grouping rather than a single statement piece, a well-carved smaller door like this one is often a more practical and still meaningfully valuable choice.
