Attributed to the early-to-mid 20th century (circa 1920s–1950s), this 65-inch architectural entrance door is a three-plank masterwork from the Nupe people of Central Nigeria along the Niger River basin. A distinctive threshold piece, the central panel features an integrated square glass mirror set within a carved vessel frame—a spiritual ward designed to deflect negative energy. Below the mirror, the composition displays a pair of European boot soles with diamond treads, a status symbol representing noble journeys and respected visitors.

The surrounding planks are carved in relief with a dynamic riverine bestiary: a climbing water monitor lizard, an undulating vertical river serpent, a freshwater crab, a tortoise, and wading birds. An arched prayer niche (mihrab) and trade tools frame the iconography. Hand-hewn from solid indigenous African hardwood, the three vertical planks are bound on the reverse with three horizontal timber bracing cleats secured with wooden pins. Measuring 65 inches high by 29 inches wide, its warm honey-tobacco patina and mirror aperture make it a rare conversational statement piece for entryways, living rooms, and curated global art collections.
