Small Vintage Black Clay Tripod Bowl

A humble yet elegant example of Mexican folk craftsmanship, this footed bowl hails from the Oaxaca Highlands. Crafted from the region's distinctive black clay (Barro Negro), it rests on three sturdy legs—a "tripod" silhouette that has been used in Mesoamerican pottery for thousands of years. The finish is a smooth, satin matte rather than a high gloss, achieved by burnishing the clay with quartz before firing it in a smoke-filled kiln. This reduction firing process turns the clay black without the use of glazes, resulting in a piece that feels organic, earthy, and deeply connected to the land.
This tripod bowl is a versatile "Wabi-Sabi" accent that fits seamlessly into modern, organic interiors. Its porous nature and wide 6-inch opening make it a classic choice as a ritual smudge bowl for holding sage bundles or Palo Santo
