Hand-carved from a single plank of hardwood, this door carries the geometric vocabulary of Mali's Dogon and Bamana doors — a double-arc band, reading almost like a shallow heart shape, crosses the top of the panel, giving way to converging diagonal chevron lines that narrow into a triangular point at the center. A carved tab at the upper right marks where the door once fit its frame. Running down the center of the panel is a vertical crack that was stabilized long ago with hand-set metal staples — a functional historic repair rather than a later restoration, and a sign the door was valued and kept in active use rather than set aside once damaged. 

The wood shows further honest wear throughout: an uneven, deep patina, fine surface cracking beyond the main repaired split, and a naturally worn silhouette along the edges. Mounted on its custom stand, the door's bold triangular carving and visible history of repair give it real character — well suited to a hallway, entry, or reading nook where its story can be appreciated up close.
