Hand-painted Green & Blue Porcelain Vase (Trade)

A small vintage vase with a pair of layered blossoms, one in soft green, one in deeper blue, share the body in a single asymmetric spray, each petal built up in soft washes with a scatter of stippled dots at the centers standing in for stamens. It reads quieter and more restrained than the bold pink peony piece, closer in spirit to the detailed, close-looking pieces in this small set than the ones built for distance. The same celadon-brown glaze catches at the small flared mouth, tying it visually to its five siblings even as the palette shifts. Green-and-blue florals like this sit a little further from the classic pink peony or duckling-and-reeds imagery more commonly seen on Chinese decorative porcelain, part of what makes a curated, varied group like this one interesting to a collector rather than six repeats of the same idea.

A small hand-painted Chinese porcelain vase with a green and blue floral spray on a round body, one of six individually decorated pieces from a small curated collection, each carrying its own unique hand-painted scene.

What makes the palette on this piece unusual? Green and blue floral pairings are less commonly seen than the pink peony or blue-and-white combinations typical of Chinese decorative porcelain, which is part of what gives this piece in the set its own identity.
