Bleached Teak 36" Round Inlay Mirror (Trade)

Every inch of this round mirror frame is covered in a continuous vine of white inlay, set into reclaimed teak that has been bleached to a soft, raw honey. Look closely and the tendrils curl into tiny leaves and scattered dots, held in place by fine black and white banding along both edges. Not all inlay is created equal. Cutting, fitting and setting this many small pieces cleanly takes many hours of skilled artisan work, and it shows in the way the pattern keeps its line around the whole circle.

At 36 inches across, it is large enough to anchor a console, a mantel or the end of a hallway, and its pale tone brightens a darker wall. It pairs easily with white plaster, rattan, black iron and natural linen. Inlay of this kind belongs to a long Indian tradition of setting fine patterns into wood by hand.

Q&A
1. How can I tell hand-set inlay from printed or laminated inlay?
Hand-set inlay is cut and fitted into the wood, so you can see and feel small seams around each piece and slight variations in the pattern. Printed or laminated versions are flat, with a uniform repeat and no edges to feel. On a mirror like this one, look closely at the vine tendrils and the dots.
2. Where should I hang a large round mirror?
A 36 inch round mirror works best where it has room to be seen as a circle: over a console, above a mantel, at the end of a hallway or across from a window. Center it at eye level, with the middle of the glass at about 57 to 60 inches from the floor.
