Years of wear have turned the original paint on this Damachiya chest into patches of turquoise, rust and bare wood. A band of fine geometric carving runs across the upper rail, iron straps and wood cleats hold the plank top, and carved horse corbels at the corners give the piece its character and its depth. Damachiya chests are traditional Indian folk storage chests, and this one keeps its original painted finish.
Our team added a center door and an open shelf to make it practical for everyday storage. At 57 inches wide with a 16-inch top, it suits an entry, a dining room wall or the foot of a bed. A drawer with a studded front and ring pull sits below the door, and the open shelf holds books or baskets.
