Antique Carved Indian Gujarati Tribal Door

| /
A monumental piece of architectural history, this solid wood door originally guarded the entrance to a rural Haveli or tribal home in India. It is defined by its grid construction, heavily reinforced with studs—a design element historically used to strengthen doors against battering rams, which eventually evolved into a status symbol. The individual panels contain delightful folk carvings: solar rosettes representing energy and life, alongside charming depictions of elephants and other animals. The wood has a dry, aged brown patina that speaks to centuries of exposure to the elements.
