This rare African artifcact is  a monumental achievement in West African tribal art. Standing nearly five feet tall, this rare multi-tiered sculpture is hand-carved from a single, massive piece of indigenous hardwood by the Dogon people of Mali. The piece is architecturally structured in three parts: a sturdy base in the form of a ceremonial animal, a central globular granary bowl with intricate geometric incisions, and a crowning equestrian figure. The rider, or Hogon, is a central figure in Dogon mythology, representing the spiritual and political link between the celestial and earthly realms. The entire surface of the dark, dense timber is covered in traditional "herringbone" and linear carvings that served both a decorative and symbolic purpose. The wood has developed a deep, lustrous dark walnut patina through decades of ceremonial use and handling. This is not merely a statue; it is an architectural "totem" that brings a profound sense of global history and museum-quality presence to a grand foyer, library, or minimalist gallery space.

As an authentic tribal artifact, this Equestrian tribal figure is presented in its Original Antique Condition. It exhibits significant "earned character," including natural age-related wood fissures, softened carving details, and the beautiful irregular texture that only comes from 19th-century hand-tooling and historical provenance.
