She stands tall and straight on slightly bent legs, arms hanging at her sides, under a pointed crest of hair marked with a raised ridge along the center. This antique Senufo standing female figure has fine scarification lines on the cheeks and chest, closed almond eyes and a calm, composed face. Years of handling have rubbed the carved wood to a warm, glossy brown, with golden highlights on the crest, face and shoulders, and the figure rests on its own round carved base, set on a custom made stand that is included.

The Senufo of northern Côte d'Ivoire, and neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso, carved standing female figures known as pombibele, which Poro society members carried in processions and set out during funerals for elders. At 31.5 inches tall including the stand and 7 inches across, it makes a strong single figure for a console, a pedestal or a deep shelf, and its upright, simplified lines suit both traditional and modern rooms.
