19th Century Rustic Indian Teak Window/Wall Art

This rustic handsome piece of Primitive Architectural Salvage is an authentic Indian window shutter, dating to the late 19th century. Sourced from a traditional haveli or rural home, this window was a crucial element of daily life, offering protection, privacy, and cooling shade. The construction is robust and rustic, featuring thick planks of weathered hardwood and original, hand-wrought iron hinges and latches. The layered surface boasts an exceptional multitone patina, with remnants of original paint (soft greens, rust, and brown) peeking through the deeply aged wood. A central, vertical carved plank (or battan) adds a final, textural detail. This shutter is history in its rawest, most tactile form.

The warm, rustic texture and manageable size (24" W x 39" H) make this piece highly versatile for introducing an element of Farmhouse Chic, Wabi-Sabi, or Organic Modern into almost any space. Hang the shutter vertically to add instant texture and color depth above a small console  or bathroom vanity. The exposed iron hardware gives it a wonderful industrial-primitive edge. Use the shutter as a backdrop for a display shelf or console table. Leaning it against a wall behind lamps, pottery, or plants highlights its rustic, multitone surface and creates an artful, dimensional display. Or hang the shutter in place of traditional wall art in a niche or small space to mimic the look of a functioning window, adding an unexpected, historic architectural detail. Secure mounting hardware (not included) is required for safely hanging this piece.
