A rare antique Buddha statue from North Central China beautifully carved from solid marble. This antique Buddha statue measures 35” H and shows traces of its original painted finish along with an aged semi wash tone on the exposed areas of the marble. This beautiful Buddha statue is seated cross-legged on top of a carved lotus platform, which represents enlightenment and spiritual growth. The Buddha's hands are in the Abhaya Mudra is a gesture of fearlessness or blessing that represents the protection, peace, benevolence and dispelling of fear. .
This Marble Buddha features intricate carved details, an ornate nimbus headrest which is a symbol of his enlightenment and spiritual power. The necklace around the Buddha's neck is often made of prayer beads or other sacred objects and serves as a symbol of protection and spiritual guidance. It also shows wrinkles and foldings along the rope which was part of the Buddha's attire. This antique Chinese sculpture would have been placed in public temples, likely shown at a monastery altar. It shows age and discoloration in some areas along with a crack on the side but it’s in good structural condition.
