Vintage San Bartolo Black Clay Global Vessel

This 8-inch vessel is a larger expression of the storied Barro Negro tradition from San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca. These rounded vessels were historically used for larger-scale storage or as significant household objects. The smoldering, metallic finish is achieved through a unique "reduction firing" technique that traps carbon within the clay, coupled with the laborious hand-burnishing process that gives the piece its silky, light-catching surface without the use of artificial glazes. This piece features a perfect globular silhouette with a subtly flared, minimalist rim. Its expansive surface area showcases the exceptional hand-burnishing characteristic of high-end Oaxacan pottery. Like its petite counterpart, this vessel sits upon a custom woven ring stand, which elevates the rounded base and adds a beautiful textural contrast of natural fiber against the deep, matte-black clay. It embodies a "Modern Primitive" soul—ancient in origin but perfectly aligned with contemporary minimalist aesthetics.

With its symmetrical 8-inch proportions, this vessel is a masterclass in organic balance. It is an ideal focal point for a coffee table, a kitchen island, or a dining room console.  The woven base gives it a finished, gallery-ready look that works equally well on raw wood or stone surfaces.
