The Water Spirit Mata Ortiz Large Vessel

This spectacular vessel is a profound tribute to the ancient artistry of Northern Mexico, hailing from the rugged Chihuahuan desert. This unique pot, in the distinct style of Mata Ortiz pottery, is defined by its organic, globular form and raw, unglazed terracotta finish, which serves as a canvas for a striking, hand-painted motif. A powerful, stylized Fish motif, complete with geometric patterns and celestial details, wraps around the vessel, representing prosperity, water, and life in the arid desert.

This large Mexican vessel, measuring 13 inches wide and 12 inches high, was originally a cantaro or water jug, but now serves as a magnificent tabletop planter for succulents, or a sculptural centerpiece that anchors any global, bohemian, or minimalist space.
