A Guro tribal mask, made of native wood and painted with natural pigments. This mask would have been worn during festive ceremonies to remove evil energies from the village. The Guro people lived in the central Ivory Coast and were well known as sculptors of great colorful masks. This piece features a calm stoic expression with long rounded horns and retains traces of its original painted finish.
