Pair of Vintage Oaxacan Black Clay Vases

$485.00
| /

A striking pair of handmade vessels from the Oaxaca Highlands of Mexico, famous for its distinct "Barro Negro" (Black Clay) tradition. These vases are defined by their satin black finish and traditional tripod (three-legged) silhouette, a form rooted in ancient Zapotec design. Unlike glazed ceramics, the deep black color is achieved through a specific smoke-firing process and burnishing with a quartz stone before firing. The surface features faint, hand-incised geometric or floral motifs, showcasing the artisan's touch without overwhelming the sleek, organic form.
These Oaxacan tripod vases are essential elements for creating a "Desert Modern" or "Organic Minimalist" aesthetic. Their matte black finish provides a stunning, grounding contrast when styled on light oak shelving or white plaster mantels. Because traditional Oaxacan clay is porous, these are best utilized as sculptural dry vases.
