Silvered Lotus, Antique Tinned Copper Vessel

This piece is a study in texture and tone. While crafted from copper or brass, it was historically coated in tin, giving it a luminous, silvery-grey surface that has softened beautifully with age. You can see the "spun" texture on the wide, flared rim, where concentric lines catch the light. The patina is perfectly worn, showing glimpses of the warmer base metal underneath, creating that coveted two-tone industrial look. It retains its original perforated central grate, which adds a layer of intricate geometric detail to the otherwise smooth, minimalist form. Sourced from India, this is a traditional Pikdan, once a staple in households for the disposal of betel nut juice. However, the Kalai finish suggests it might have also served a dual purpose in a kitchen or dining setting, as tinning was primarily used to make metal food-safe. The wide rim was designed to be functional—catching splashes—but today, it serves as a stunning architectural feature that draws the eye inward.

This antique vessel is sculptural enough to sit empty. The "funnel" shape reflects ambient light in a unique way, brightening up a dark corner.
