Finely Woven Southeast Asian Lidded Basket

A beautiful example of finding beauty in imperfection, this antique lidded basket features an exceptionally tight, structural weave and a graceful, footed silhouette. However, its most defining feature is the large, jagged burn mark on one side. In the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, marks of wear and damage are celebrated as part of an object's life cycle rather than concealed. From the "good" side, it is a classic, elegant storage vessel; from the other, it is a raw piece of history that invites curiosity about its past life. Place it in a corner or against a wall with the unblemished side facing out. It functions perfectly as a tall vessel for dried pampas grass or branches.
