This antique carved Buddha statue from the Shanxi province in China, is shown seated in a single lotus pose. Beautifully carved from wood, this antique calming Buddha statue shows traces of its original painted finish along with aged marks, pigmentation and dust etched into the painted finish. This original Buddha statue measures over 30” tall and represents focused concentration, the eyes of the Buddha are either depicted as halfway closed and the silhouette of the statue is shaped like a triangle, which represents stability. The Buddha’s left hands are touching its lap position, with the palms facing down in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, which represents attained enlightenment. The Buddha radiates serenity with its calm expression and a snail cap on top of his head. The antique finely carved figure also shows wrinkles and foldings along the rope which was part of the Buddha’s attire. This antique Chinese sculpture would have been placed in public temples, likely shown at a monastery altar. It shows age and discoloration in some areas but it’s in good structural condition. Missing the right hand.
