A rare antique colonial style spice box from Ceylon. Of Dutch colonial style, this box is characterized by a blend of European and Asian design elements, reflecting the cultural exchange and influence of the Dutch colonial period. This antique spice box of fine craftsmanship is made from teak wood with a lovely natural finish. In ancient cultures like India and Sri Lanka, spice boxes or trays are an important part of everyday life. These boxes typically have several compartments, each holding a different spice or spice blend, and are used to keep spices organized and easily accessible during cooking. This small original Colonial chest has initials engraved on its front and features a sliding top, which allows easy access to the spices and herbs stored inside.
